Using Luer Fittings

Chips with Luer connectors are shipped with protective capsMany customers order chips (or flow cells) with factory-installed Luer connectors. These chips are shipped with a protective luer cap, which is screwed on top of each luer base. The cap prevents contaminants from entering into the microfluidic channels. We strongly recommend that you keep the caps on until you are ready to use the chip.

Select the proper luer connector to avoid leakage

Once you are ready to use the chip (or flow cell), unscrew the protective caps and replace them with the appropriate male luer connector fittings. Polymer tubing, with the appropriate inner diameter, can be attached to the male luer connector fitting simply by pushing the tubing over the barb interface. Make sure that the tubing has the correct internal diameter (ID) and that it covers the entire barb interface.

Male Luer connector fittings are availabe with barbs designed for various common tubing ID, including: 1/16” (1.6mm), 1/8” (3.2 mm), 5/32” (4 mm) , and 3/16 (4.8 mm).

Not sure which one you will need? Order one of our Luer kits  – they contain a range of Luer adapters to interface your chips with the most common types of tubing. And, at less than $1/piece, these kits will save you money as well as time.
