Using Luer Fittings

Many customers order chips (or flow cells) with factory-installed Luer connectors. These chips are shipped with a protective luer cap, which is screwed on top of each luer base. The cap prevents contaminants from entering into the microfluidic channels. We strongly recommend that you keep the caps on until you are ready to use the chip.

Once you are ready to use the chip (or flow cell), unscrew the protective caps and replace them with the appropriate male luer connector fittings. Polymer tubing, with the appropriate inner diameter, can be attached to the male luer connector fitting simply by pushing the tubing over the barb interface. Make sure that the tubing has the correct internal diameter (ID) and that it covers the entire barb interface, in order to ensure a leak proof connection.

Male luer connector fittings are availabe with barbs designed for various common tubing ID. Upon request, we can provide you with nylon male luer connector fittings for tubing with the following ID:

  • 1/16” (1.6mm)
  • 1/8” (3.2 mm)
  • 5/32” (4 mm)
  • 3/16 (4.8 mm)
